We said in August that Duncraggan Xcellent 353 had been nominated as a finalist for the 2018 ARC National Special Performance Test Class. The results are in, and he was the Beef Shorthorn bull in the class.
The class takes the best Phase C Gold and Silver Merit bulls tested over the year, one per breed, and each finalist is crowned the national winner for its breed. Eighteen breeds were represented this year, the 40th year of the competition.
Xcellent 353 (BLK 16 0353) was tested at Winter Castles. His figures:
- Average daily gain: 2 115 g a day (index 120)
- Feed conversion: 5.36 kg feed per kg gain (index 109)
- Shoulder height 1 200 mm, body length 1 389 mm, scrotum 295 mm
He is a solid red son of Duncraggan Smashing Stuff 103, and his first calves are dropping in the herd now. We are excited to see what they do.
