Two more national Beef Shorthorn awards came our way at the ARC National Beef Performers Virtual Awards, broadcast by Plaas Media on 28 November.

Special Performance Test Class: Duncraggan Diplomat 611

Diplomat (BLK 22 0611), our red Phase C Silver Merit bull, was the Beef Shorthorn finalist, which makes him the breed’s national winner in the class. On test at Winter Castles he gained 1 871 g a day (index 111) with a feed conversion of 6.06 (index 103), and measured 1 444 mm body length and 313 mm scrotum. Twenty breeds were represented.

Best Elite Cow: BLK 13 0229

A Duncraggan Rubicon 089 daughter. Eleven years old, seven calves, first calved at 31 months, and an average weaning index of 113. Her weaning direct and maternal breeding values are 10.4 and 11.1. She does her job, and her calves wean heavy.

These awards go to animals that have been weighed and measured, not just looked at, which is how we like to breed cattle. Please feel free to give Allistair a call to talk about Diplomat or his relatives.
