Our first internet bull auction, run with Sheard Auctioneers, is done and dusted, and we could not be happier. After an open day on the farm on 3 September, five bulls went under the hammer. A sixth, D. Obvious 0806, had to be withdrawn after injuring a testicle.
Duncraggan Petraeus 065, a 20-month-old Rigby’s 02059 son, made the top price of R27 500, going to Mr Robbie Blaine of Wauldby Shorthorns. That is a new record for a Shorthorn bull, and our top three bulls all beat the previous record. Duncraggan Oshkosh 0813 followed at R26 500 to Brosterlea Shorthorn Stud.
Thank you to every buyer and everyone who came out for the open day. There is more about the sale, and about the herd, in our Spring 2011 newsletter.
